Martinelli, along with Turley was the original "cult" Zinfandel specialist in California. They achieved this notoriety due to the extremely high alcohol levels in their wines and equally extreme scores the critics bestowed upon them. Both producers have mellowed considerably in their mature years and the wines are now much more balanced and proportioned, while retaining their heft and size. "Vigneto di Evo" might be their most symmetrical cuvee, with less voluptuousness than its more famous siblings.
