“Les Charmes” is located just over the border from Meursault in the fabled Puligny-Montrachet appellation. It sits just below “Les Referts”, a sought-after 1er Cru. Because it is located at the bottom of the slope, there is more clay in the soil, and actually renders a slightly more plump wine than the Meursault (contrary to the typical assumptions about the two villages). We almost never see Puligny under $100 a bottle these days, let alone a great one.
