This tequila is made by Melly Cardenas, one of the few female distillers in tequila country in El Valle de Guadalupe, and her mostly female team. Gritona is made according to traditional methods, using perfectly ripened select highland agave plants. The harvested plants are slow-cooked in brick ovens and then left to naturally ferment with ambient yeasts before being double distilled in small pot stills. The spirit is then aged for 8 months in old American oak barrels. Complex and brooding in character the spirit gives off notes of caramelized fruit, ginger, and pepper.
